Inter-city rail

Inter-city rail services are train services which cover larger distances than commuter trains. In the U.S.A. they are operated by Amtrak; the network is not as dense as in Europe.

In Europe railways have many more stations than the Inter-city trains halt at; the smaller stations are served by local trains. An exception form high speed railways, which have only few stations.
