Centre Georges Pompidou

The Centre Georges Pompidou is a building in the Beaubourg area of Paris, near Les Halles. Designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers[?], opened in 1977. It houses the Musée National d'Art Moderne[?].

The structure is very distinctive: it has been described by critics as "an oil refinery in the centre of the city".

The Centre is named after Georges Pompidou, who was president of France from 1969 to 1974.

Organisatorically it is linked to IRCAM.

The plaza in front of the building is noted for the presence of street acts such as mimes and jugglers.
