Alfred Edmund Brehm, 1829-1884, German zoologist. Mostly known for the encyclopaedia Illustriertes Tierleben. Eine allgemeine Kunde des Tierreichs, 1864-1865 (Life of Animals). Often re-issued, at least into the 1960s.
